Does Red Seal test on animals?

We can assure you there is no animal testing with any Red Seal products, and we have never conducted any testing on animals. Our quality control team, along with our technical team perform numerous tests to ensure our products are safe and suitable for consumer use without the need to test on animals.

Do your tea bags contain plastic?

No, our Red Seal Herbal, and Hot Or Cold tea bags do not contain plastic. Our teabag filter paper is based on natural fibres that are biodegradable and compostable and our 100% cotton string is compostable, but at this stage the paper tag is not. We have recently removed the plastic wrap on our Herbal and Green tea ranges also! You'll now find them in a box with a handy 'zip' and resealable open/close.

Are Red Seal teas gluten free?

Only our Hot or Cold Brew range are gluten free. Our green teas and herbal range have no gluten containing ingredients.

Are your teas vegetarian or vegan?

All Red Seal teas are made with only plant-based ingredients, so they’re suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.

Do your teas contain caffeine?

Most of our brews are actually caffeine free! The exceptions are Mi Chai and our Green teas. Just check the front of pack as we state 'caffeine free' where applicable.

Why is Red Seal Raspberry Leaf tea individually wrapped?

We wrap each raspberry tea bag individually to keep the delicate raspberry leaves fresh and protected. This extra care also helps maintain the quality of the tea during transportation, especially in warmer climates. We want you to enjoy every cup at its best.

Can I drink Raspberry Leaf tea during pregnancy?

Raspberry Leaf is a time-honoured herb used by females for generations, this tea is inspired by herbal knowledge. Raspberry Leaf tea is traditionally enjoyed by women during the latter stages of pregnancy and after meals for digestive comfort. We recommend you consult your health care practitioner to find what's right for you.

Do your tea bags contain bleach?

We are please to confirm that Red Seal Herbal, Functional and Hot or Cold tea bags are:

Unbleached
Made from natural fibres and do not contain any synthetic fibres
Do not contain any plastics and are therefore plastic free

I've heard that Licorice Tea can increase blood pressure?

Licorice is popular herb, it's delicious and is what gives our Black Adder blend that delicate sweet taste. While liquorice has a number of positive effects on the body, it is not recomended for those with high blood pressure, kidney problems or during pregnancy. The effect of licorice on blood pressure can vary from person to person. Consult your healthcare professional to check if liquorice tea is right for you.

What is the Rainforest Alliance Certification of Herbal Teas about?

At Red Seal we believe you can make products that taste great, and are kind to the planet. That's why we've partnered with the Rainforest Alliance, a worldwide programme making responsible business the new normal. Rainforest Alliance works to protect forests, improve the livelihoods of farmers and forest communities, promote their human rights, and help them mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis.

Our herbal blends range from a minium of 50% to fully RFA certified. We think this is a good start, but are working towards making our blends even more sustainable in the future.

What does it mean when your teas are 50% Rainforest Alliance certified?

When our tea is labeled as "50% Rainforest Alliance Certified," it means that half of the ingredients are sourced from farms that adhere to the Rainforest Alliance's sustainability standards and are certified by them. While other products like cocoa or coffee require at least 90% certified content, herbal teas have a lower threshold due to the limited availability of some certified ingredients. As such we clearly label the certified percentage on each box, and as supply increases, we aim to certify increasing amounts of our tea blends in partnership with the Rainforest Alliance.

Where has the UTZ gone on your Herbal and Functional Range tea packaging?

You might have noticed that the UTZ certification has disappeared. This is because the UTZ certification program is now part of the Rainforest Alliance.

The UTZ organisation joined forces with the Rainforest Alliance to create a better future for people and nature and to be an even better partner for the many stakeholders they work with. You'll now see the Rainforest Alliance certification appearing on Red Seal's herbal and green teas. Rest assured, we're still one of the best, most sustainable herbal teas on your supermarket shelves.
