Meet Danielle! Red Seals new naturopathic partner.

I’m Danielle, a registered naturopath and medical herbalist passionate about helping people improve their well-being and achieve balance in their lives.
My journey in the natural health field began after seeking the help of a naturopath for my own health challenges. After experiencing the benefits of stress reduction, improved nutrition, and tailored herbal remedies, I developed an interest in natural health. This led me to change my career path and pursue a Bachelor of Natural Medicine.
Having personal experience on my own health journey, I understand that it can take time for the body to adapt and improve its function. Finding the underlying cause of an individual’s health concerns is integral to achieving long-lasting health changes and is a core part of naturopathic practice. After understanding the relationship between stress, gut health, and the impact these can have on overall well-being, I decided this was an area I wanted to become more familiar with and something I strive to help others achieve.
I now have my own naturopathic practice, The Daily Naturopath, where I support clients in making simple, effective lifestyle changes to enhance their health. Through personalised one-on-one consultations and tailored health plans, I ensure my recommendations are specific to each individual’s needs. I understand that making health changes can be challenging, so I focus on creating strategies that fit naturally into my clients’ daily lives. I’m excited to share my knowledge of natural medicine with the Red Seal community, helping more people discover the benefits of natural health.

The History and Evolution of Naturopathy
What initially drew me to Red Seal was their core values, supporting everyday health by focusing on wellness from the inside out, while also valuing the traditional knowledge of naturopaths and herbalists. I was inspired to learn that one of New Zealand’s first herbalist shops was established in the 1920s by English herbalist William T. Anderton, the founder of what would later become known as Red Seal. He believed that when the body becomes ill, it naturally strives to restore balance, a process that could be supported with natural remedies. This philosophy aligns closely with the principles of naturopathy.
As a system of medicine, naturopathy was formalised in the late 19th century, however, the roots of natural medicine stretch back thousands of years. Across ancient cultures, food, herbs, and a connection to nature were central to improving health. Hippocrates, widely known as the “father of medicine,” promoted a healthy lifestyle as the key to health and the prevention of disease within the body, a philosophy that continues to influence modern natural health practices. Natural medicine evolved over time, and the principles of naturopathy were developed. Some of these include: identifying the root cause of illness, harnessing the healing power of nature, and recognising that prevention is the best cure.
Today, many naturopaths integrate traditional wisdom with evidence-based approaches to support people with long-term health concerns. Naturopaths see health as the body’s natural state, with illness arising from imbalance or “dis-ease” when our lifestyle disrupts the body’s internal environment. By identifying the underlying cause of illness, naturopaths determine how best to support the body and create lasting change. Natural remedies, such as diet, lifestyle, emotional well-being, and herbal medicines, play a key role in supporting the body’s natural function.
Making simple changes to our daily routines, such as adding more movement or practicing breath work, can help reduce stress and bring our focus to the present moment. A varied diet, rich in nutrients from multiple food groups, is essential for supporting the body’s physiology. Naturopaths often use herbal medicine to further support the body’s natural rhythm, with specific herbs traditionally associated with particular organs or systems. For example, calendula and burdock have been used to support the lymphatic system, which may aid in toxin elimination and promote healthy skin.
Naturopathy takes a gentle approach to health by supporting the body’s natural functions. Using simple tools like nutrition, lifestyle changes, and herbal medicine, we work to address the underlying factors that influence our health and support the body in a sustainable way. When we reconnect with these foundations, we realise that lasting change often starts with small, everyday choices that support our overall well-being.
